Density altitude is a measure used in aviation to assess the altitude at which the air density matches the density of the air at a given pressure altitude under standard atmospheric conditions. The formula to calculate density altitude (â„Ž da) from pressure altitude (â„Ž pa) and temperature deviation as follows:
Where:
- Â is the density altitude (in feet or meters),
- h pa is the pressure altitude (in feet or meters),
- is the temperature deviation from the standard temperature at the pressure altitude (in degrees Celsius or Kelvin).
