Measuring Atmospheric Pressure with a Barometer

A barometer is an instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure, which is the force exerted by the weight of the air above us. The pressure is usually expressed in units like millimeters of mercury (mmHg), pascals (Pa), or inches of mercury (inHg). There are two main types of barometers: mercury barometers and aneroid barometers.

The barometric reading at a location in height of mercury column is given. The atmospheric pressure is to be determined.

Pressure can be calculated by the simple relation between density, acceleration due to gravity and height reading in the barometer.

The result will be in kPa.
