Profile drag coefficient calculator

The profile drag coefficient (Cd) is a dimensionless quantity used in fluid mechanics and aerodynamics to characterize the resistance experienced by an object as it moves through a fluid, such as air or water. It is a measure of the drag force generated due to the interaction between the object’s surface and the fluid. Profile drag arises from the frictional resistance of the fluid as it flows over the surface of the object.

  • Cd: Profile drag coefficient
  • Df: Form drag (also called pressure drag)
  • Dp: Skin friction drag
  • q∞: Dynamic pressure of the free-stream flow.
  • V is the free-stream velocity.
  • S: Reference area
