Torque, in physics, is a measure of the rotational force applied to an object about an axis. It is the product of the force applied to the object and the distance from the axis of rotation to the point where the force is applied, multiplied by the sine of the angle between the force vector and the lever arm.
Where:
- Force is the perpendicular force applied
- Distance is the distance from the pivot point to the point where the force is applied
- θ (theta) is the angle between the force vector and the lever arm
