Sidewash Angle Calculator

In flight mechanics, the sidewash angle refers to the angle at which the downward and outward airflow from an aircraft’s wings affects the surrounding air. As the wings generate lift, the resulting airflow creates a vertical component, known as the sidewash. The sidewash angle represents the deviation of this flow from the aircraft’s longitudinal axis. The formula to calculate sidewash angle as follows:

Where:

  • is the sidewash angle in radian
  • is the  Angle of Attack of Vertical tail in radian.
  • is the sideslip angle in radian.
