Radial velocity for circular cylinder Calculator

The radial velocity (Vr) component of fluid flow around a circular cylinder refers to the fluid velocity perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder at a given radial distance from its center. This component of velocity describes how the fluid moves towards or away from the center of the cylinder in the radial direction.

  • Vr is the radial velocity at a distance r from the center of the cylinder,
  • R is the radius of the circular cylinder,
  • V∞ is the uniform velocity of the fluid far away from the cylinder (free stream velocity),
  • r is the radial distance from the center of the cylinder to the point of interest,
  • θ is the angle between the point of interest on the cylinder’s circumference and the upstream direction of the flow.
